Many available for adoption this week

Sixteen cats were surrendered to the Manchester Police Department Animal Control Division and brought to Friends of the Manchester Animal Shelter (FMAS) after their owner passed away.

On average, the cats are about 10 years old and many were in need of extensive medical or dental care, but after being treated, all will be released for adoption at FMAS this week.

“This is a sad case where we know that the owner loved her pets very much, but because her family was unable to care for the cats, they ended up here at the shelter,” said Assistant Shelter Manager, Samantha Stein. “All the cats are very friendly and don’t mind being held or picked up, so we know they were loved.”

The cats will receive full medical exams, necessary medical and dental care, vaccinations and spay/neuter surgery, if necessary, before they are ready for adoption. Stein believes about half will be ready for their new families by the end of this week.

“These cats may be more difficult to place due to their age, but they still have a lot of life to live and a lot more love to give,” commented Stein. “Most indoor cats can live up to 17, or more, happy and healthy years.”
