E.Coli Shuts Beach at Wasserman Park for Another Weekend

Alert from police says tests will be performed again Monday.

If you were planning to take advantage of this weekend's predicted sunny and warm weather at Wasserman Park, an adjustment of plans is in order.

A text notification sent through the Merrimack Police Department's alert program with Nixle.com announced that high e.Coli counts are again forcing people out of the water.

The beach was posted as inadvisable to swim during the last weekend of July after water tests showed levels of the fecal bacteria were elevated above the state's recommended safe level of 88 colonies per 100 milliliters of water.

According to today's alert from police, the water will be tested again on Monday.

During the last closure, Parks and Recreation Director Sherry Kalish said the department tests the water at least once a week and when an abnormal reading comes back the department starts testing the water daily until the reading goes down, however, the department does not test over the weekend, she said.

Monday's results will not be available until Tuesday morning, so swimmers should stay out of the water through the weekend, until the town deems it safe to swim again.
