Lemonade Stand Brings in More Than $475

Post-Memorial Day Parade lemonade stand was held to collect money for Celiac disease awareness.

Merrimack's Samantha Laflotte, 6, held a lemonade stand in front of her Jessica Drive home on Monday afternoon with outstanding results.

Laflotte and her parents learned last year the months of persistent stomach aches was actually Celiac disease, an allergy to gluten.

Laflotte's mother Melissa said Monday afternoon that they were hoping to bring awareness to the disease as well as kickstart perhaps, the beginning of a walk or 5k run to raise even more for Celiac awareness and the help find a cure.

Samantha had a goal of selling 50 cups at a dollar a piece. Also available were gluten free cookies and brownies to try.

Melissa Laflotte said late Monday afternoon that the turnout was better than they could have ever expected. They sold 125 cups of lemonade for a whopping $476.47. And that doesn't include some money they've received as dontions from friends in the mail.

Melissa said on a family vacation recently Samantha made friends with another little girl with Celiac's from Utah, and even she got involved, collecting donations from neighbors and sending a $37 check to New Hampshire.
