Holiday decorations do more than glitter and sparkle – they give a hint about the personality of their owners.

Whether it's a trinket showing loyalty to a favorite sports team, cartoon character, or store [did you get your mini coffee cup from Dunkin' Donuts this year?] ornaments run the full range of sizes, shapes, and colors.

And when it comes time to deck out the tree, it's the ornament that gets the best spot – the perfect place for the ornament to function as a conversation starter.

Other folks prefer original, handmade decorations – especially if they were created by the kids when they were younger.

Whatever the style, one thing's for sure: favorite decorations are unique.

Here's your chance to share photos [or video] of the most unique decoration you keep on your tree.

Post your photos and video by clicking the "Upload photos and videos" button above. Make sure to tell us about the ornament in the caption.

In 1987 we had an illuminated star on top of our Christmas tree. A couple of days before Christmas, it shorted out and melted the lights and wiring. So for a day or two we had nothing on top of our tree. On Christmas Eve I thought to myself, "this isn't right". So I found a decoration that we had, it was a small white furry ape with a Santa hat that sucked his thumb. I wraped his arm around the top of the tree and stuck his thumb in his mouth. I thought it was great! My wife hated it. But, he's been on the top of our tree every year ever since. I've even found some more and given them to my adult kids, and they put them up every year now too.
