VIDEO: Merrimack Bridge Named After Fallen Marine

Exit 11 bridge dedicated in the name of Corp. Timothy Gibson.

Six years ago, Tim Gibson died serving the United States in Iraq.

Yesterday, hundreds of friends, family and local residents gathered at the American Legion in Merrimack to ensure every person that drove up or down the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Merrimack would be reminded of Gibson's sacrifice.

Indeed, the bridge spanning the highway at exit 11 was dedicated in the name of the fallen Marine who was among 30 service men and women killed in a 2005 helicopter crash in Iraq.

The dedication is the result of months of tireless effort by Vietnam Veteran Gary Gahan, who proposed the idea, and New Hampshire Representative Jeanine Notter of Merrimack, who drafted House Bill 525, which was unanimously passed by the New Hampshire House and Senate and the Merrimack Town Council.

The presentation took place at the seventh-annual Tim Gibson Softball Tournament at the American Legion.
