As I continue my campaign to be the New Hampshire State Senator from District 11 (Amherst, Merrimack, Milford and Wilton), the tasks of putting up campaign signs in 90 degree heat, poring over voter checklists and all the other chores that come with running for office don’t always put a smile on my face, but Tuesday, July 17, was different. I went to an event in Concord that was the most inspiring rally that I have ever attended. I am both humbled and inspired by the women who spoke.
The Values Bus Tour was sponsored by the Family Research Council and The Heritage Foundation. The event brought out several outstanding Republican speakers including Pam Tucker Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The rally was an attempt to counter President Obama’s rhetoric on the so called “War On Women” by Republicans, and counter it they did. Karen Testerman from Smart Girl Politics and Verity Swayne from NH Federation Of Republican Women spoke very strongly for the values of family, faith and fiscal responsibility. They also described how women in our country are under assault from Washington and Concord policies.
Jane Cormier from Alton, who is running for State Representative, spoke loudly and clearly about what it is like to live in a Socialist country and her passion for stopping Socialism from coming to the United States. Former State Rep. Nancy Elliot from Merrimack, as well as many others voiced their concerns about what happens when government intrusion in our lives is allowed to happen.
I was particularly moved by the words of State Rep. Sue Delius, who spoke of her personal past and the terrible pain she carries because of decisions she made with the help of Planned Parenthood, many years ago, and the type of help she obviously regrets to this day. I believe she is one of the bravest women I have ever met.
It was truly a great event and one I that will never forget because of the strength these women showed. One can’t help but pay attention.
