Merrimack Could See a Fresh 3-5 Inches of Snow Today

Also, package thefts, donate gifts for the holidays and watch a NH waitress get a generous surprise tip.

Snowy weather. More snow appears to be on its way in today. The forecast calls for snow, mainly after 9 a.m., with a high near 22. The snow is expected to continue through the day. Tonight's low should settle around 14, but be prepared for it to feel colder with a 6 to 10 mph hour with gusts up to 20 mph. According to a special weather advisory, the snow is expected to start between 10 a.m. and noon, become heavy at times in the afternoon. A winter weather advisory is in place from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The area could see another 3-5 inches after the 9-10 inches that fell on Saturday. Drive safely!

Toys for Tots. Toys for Tots needs donations! This year, Toys for Tots donations are down but the demand for toys is up. Consider hitting a local store and picking up gift or two to share this holiday season. There are numerous businesses in the area accepting donations on behalf of Toys for Tots. Get the list on the Toys for Tots website. It is searchable by zip code. Donations must be made by Dec. 20.

Package thefts. We've started to see package thefts from homes where UPS has made deliveries. If you're expecting a delivery, notify your neighbors and ask them to hold your packages for you. Also, please report suspicious activity to police at 424-3774. So far reports have been taken in the north end – Bedford, Bean and Woodward roads.

Big tipper. A New Hampshire waitress was on the receiving end of a big tip at the Portsmouth Gaslight Co. last week. She was one of dozens of waitstaff who've received a $500 tip from Seth Collins, a Kentucky man honoring his deceased brother's last wish, and then some. Collins' brother, Aaron, died in 2012. His last wish was to give a $500 tip to a waiter or waitress. Seth Collins raised more than $50,000 and has been traveling the country fulfilling his brother's wish. "I'm going around doing this for my brother," Seth said. "He asked that we go out to dinner and leave someone an awesome tip." Watch waitress Taylor Dube (no relation to your local editor) react to the display of generosity.
