Bacteria Advisory Lifted at Watson Park

Cyanobacteria warning remains at Horseshoe Pond.

Merrimack Health Inspector Al Turner has given the all clear for people to return to the water in Watson Park.

Tuesday morning he sent the following message:

"The latest water quality test results for the Souhegan River through Watson Park indicate that the Souhegan River water quality has improved for safe wading and swimming at Watson Park."

An advisory had been in place for a week, alerting residents to high levels of bacteria in the river, which running at a much higher water table due to recent rain.

The advisory was the second one released on a Merrimack water body this month, the first being a cyanobacteria warning at Horseshoe Pond, which is still in effect.

If you notice anything resembling cyanobacteria, please refrain from wading, swimming, or drinking the water. Keep all pets out of the water and contact DES immediately. Please call DES to report a cyanobacteria bloom at (603) 419-9229.
