New England Country Pies Closing Thursday

After 17 years, the home of the Mile High Pie is closing permanently. Mile High Pies will still be sold at retail stores.

New England Country Pies looked dark Wednesday morning.

A closer look and signs hung on the door tell the story.

"We will be closing Feb. 28. Thank you for your business," reads one.

"We will be closing at 2 p.m. starting this week. Thank you," another says.

The bright spot? "Mile High Pies are available at Market Basket, BJ's and Shaw's. Thank you for your business the past 17 years," the third one says.

Whatever the reason New England Country Pies is closing, when any business in town shuts their doors, especially one with as long a history as this, it's sad.

There was no one at the store around 10 a.m. Wednesday. The lights were off and the doors locked. While the signs say they will be open until 2 p.m., it doesn't specify what time they are opening.

According to the most recent information we could find regarding hours, they should have been open at 7 a.m., so it's possible they closed early.

A call to the restaurant/bakery just before 11 a.m. went unanswered and no answering machine or voicemail service kicked on.

One review of New England Country Pies on their Patch business listing, written just last Monday, Feb. 18, gave them 5 stars. "Best Pies in the area and their lunch menu is great. I go here all the time for lunch!" Nicole Helton Piekarski wrote.

Patch will bring you more information on the closing of New England Country Pies if it becomes available.
