2014 Summer Programs at Wasserman Park!

The Merrimack Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the 2014 Summer Programs Schedule is complete and sign-ups are under way.  Programs sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department include; Standard First Aid, Adult CPR & AED, American Red Cross Swim Lessons, Intro to Fishing and Youth Tennis.  Other sports programs held at Wasserman Park are: O’Leary Basketball Camp under the direction of Kevin O’Leary, Archery for adults and children through New England Archery & Supplies LLC and In the Net Sports Academy which is offering Field Hockey, Lacrosse and Skateboarding.  

 

NEW this year, we have added Introduction to Fishing!  Taught by the New Hampshire Dept of Fish & Game, this FREE program will explore the skills, the equipment needed and resources available to you to start your journey to becoming a successful angler. Equipment will be provided.  Participants must be at least 8 years of age and all individuals 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.  This course is held on Saturday, June 21 from 8:30 – 4:00 pm.

Participants in our Standard First Aid and Adult CPR & AED courses will receive certification upon successful completion of the program through the National Safety Council.  Standard First Aid Classes are offered on Wednesday, April 23, Saturday, June 21 and Monday, June 23.  The Adult CPR & AED class is offered on Thursday, May 15.

All Swim lessons are given by American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructors.  Youth Red Cross Swim Lessons will begin July 7 and run in two-week sessions through August 15.  Pre-school Aquatics will be held in Naticook Lake at Wasserman Park for children ages 3 and 4 and Youth Swim Lessons will be held for children 5 years of age and up.

 

Youth Tennis Lessons will be offered in two-week sessions, Monday - Thursday, from July 7 through August 14 at the Wasserman Park Tennis Courts. Children aged 5 through14 will have an opportunity to enjoy beginners and intermediate instruction.

 

The O’Leary Basketball Camp, back for the 21st summer, is offered to girls and boys ages 9-14.  Weekly sessions begin June 24 and run through August 1. This program stresses team play and individual improvement while maintaining a positive attitude.  For more information, or to register for this camp, visit http://olearycamp.com.  

 

Archery classes will be held on Friday, July 18, 25, and August 1 and 8.  Classes taught by New England School of Archery will teach you to shoot the bow and arrow and/or improve your shooting abilities!  Field Hockey, Lacrosse and Skateboarding will be offered through “In the Net Sports Academy”.  For more information, or to register for these sports camps, go to www.inthenetsportsacademy.com.
