Scott Brown Endorsement

2012 was a difficult year for New Hampshire. The two-party system evaporated and gains made in 2010 were erased.  Our state returned to where we were after defeats in 2006 and 2008 (i.e., bigger government all at the direct expense of our small business-based economy). I think that 2014 can be different, and Scott Brown is the reason why I still believe we can turn things around. I’m pleased to endorse him in the 2014 Republican Primary for U.S. Senate.

It is no exaggeration to say that Senator Shaheen’s voting record since taking office in 2008 has dispelled the myth that she is (or ever was) a thoughtful moderate who votes based on the issues and what is best for New Hampshire. Instead, her votes are partisan and consistently in line with Harry Reid and President Obama 99% of the time. Without doing the slightest bit of independent research or critical thought, on October 15, 2009, Senator Shaheen took to the Senate floor to echo the President that Obamacare would not require insured people to change plans or doctors, and that Obamacare would increase competition and lower costs. In 2010, when it became clear that the President’s promises of 2008 and 2009 were false, she again toed the party line and voted against sensible, moderate legislation which would have prevented the disruptions that 20,000 of her constituents recently experienced as Obamacare was implemented. Scott Brown knew better in 2010, and he knows better now.

Independent, common sense leadership requires standing up for your constituents when your party bosses are in the wrong. Senator Shaheen failed that test when she blindly repeated lies in 2009, and refused to be part of the solution in 2010, and had no explanation in 2013-2014. When Scott sees a problem, his first instinct is and always has been to use all of his skills to do the best he can for the people he represents, not his party leaders. Candidly, as a long-term Republican activist and a former elected official, there are votes he made as a U.S. Senator which I would have made differently. However, in that case and every other case, he will talk with any constituent, any time, for as long as it takes, and fully explain what he did, why he did it, and admit it if he made a mistake. Can we say the same for Senator Shaheen?

After sitting down with Scott Brown and his wife, I am convinced that he is dedicated to getting this country back on track, and that he can win this election.  His time in the Senate demonstrated his commitment to prohibiting earmarks, reducing taxes, repealing Obamacare, and protecting religious liberty. In my view, he is best situated to defeat Senator Shaheen and return to the U.S. Senate representing New England’s last, best hope for common sense—the state of New Hampshire.
