Amherst Man Charged with Sexually Assaulting Merrimack Teen

The victim is a student at Merrimack High School.

An Amherst man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old Merrimack High School student.

Gary Crane, 21, of 20 The Flume, Amherst is charged with one count of felonious sexual assault, a Class B felony. He was held on $50,000 bail and scheduled to appear in 9th Circuit Court at Merrimack on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

Merrimack Police said Crane's arrest was the result of a sexual assault investigation which began on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Merrimack High School officials and the school's resource officer were notified of a sexual assault which took place on Monday, Feb. 3 at a 15-year-old student's home, at which point police detectives began an investigation which resulted in a warrant being issued for Crane's arrest mid-day on Wednesday.

Crane is charged with one count of felonious sexual assault at this time, but police said they anticipate additional charges as they continue their investigation.
