Kayaker Rescued from Merrimack River

Litchfield Fire Rescue, and firefighters from Hudson and Merrimack, responded to the scene.

Litchfield Fire Rescue, with marine units from Hudson and Merrimack assisting, helped rescue a kayaker from the Merrimack River on April 22.

Responders rushed to the waterway after a caller reported someone in the river screaming for help.

Litchfield Fire Chief Frank Fraitzl, upon arriving on the scene and seeing the man floating in a swift current, directed firefighters to the area near Talent Road, according to Fire Rescue.

As marine units were being deployed, a resident in a canoe assisted the man to the riverbank, where firefighters used ropes to hoist him up and evaluate him before taking him to a local hospital for further evaluation.
