Man Faces Multiple Charges after Apartment Incident

Merrimack police charged the man with burglary, stalking, simple assault, criminal trespass, criminal mischief/domestic, and criminal mischief.

Merrimack police arrested a local man on multiple charges July 3 after he allegedly showed up at an apartment and would not leave, and later broke into it and assaulted a person looking after the residence for its owner.

Police said Ernest Demattia, 43, of 22 Railroad Ave., #7, Merrimack, was charged with burglary, stalking, simple assault, criminal trespass, criminal mischief/domestic, and criminal mischief.

Police said officers responded to London Court for a call of an unwanted subject in the residence and were told by those watching the apartment for the owner that they returned home to find Demattia sitting on the couch. They left hoping he would just leave on his own. About three hours later, they returned and said he was no longer there. While doing dishes, the victim reported to police that Demattia climbed through a window and start to scream at them, according to police.

They were able to get him out into the hallway but police said Demattia forced his way back into the apartment and knocked the victim over in the process. The person then locked themselves in the bedroom and Demattia banged on the door, leaving a hole in it, before leaving the apartment, according to police.

Police said Demattia was found by other officers at his own apartment on Railroad Avenue and he was then taken into custody and charged.

He was scheduled to be arraigned July 3 in the Nashua Court.
