Merrimack Fire Department Bids Farewell To 3 Longtime Firefighters

Merrimack Fire Rescue will bid farewell to three firefighters at the end of the December and beginning of January.

The three departmental retirements begin on Dec. 26 as Bruce Cornelius, assigned to B shift, who has 26-plus years, starts his final day.

On Friday, Dec. 27, David Joki will begin his final tour with C-shift after a 30-year career.

Then, next week, Mark Akerstrom will complete 26-plus years of service with A-Shift on Jan. 2.

In just over a week's time, Merrimack Fire will lose more than 82 years of service. Each of these men has also served in other departments, prior to being hired full-time in Merrimack. Their experience and dedication to the town of Merrimack will be greatly missed and not easily replaced.

All three of these firefighters will be available at Station 1 on Dec. 26 at 8:30 for anyone who wishes to come bid them farewell.

Station 1 is located at 432 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack.
