Merrimack Man Pleads Guilty to Heroin Trafficking Counts

Merrimack Police Chief Doyle and Attorney General Foster announced the pleas and sentencing July 16.

Attorney General Joseph Foster and Merrimack Police Chief Mark E. Doyle announced that a Merrimack man has pleaded guilty to three counts of selling heroin, two counts of possessing heroin with the intent to sell, and one count of possessing cocaine.

Denard Debruhl, 34, entered the pleas July 16 and, as part of the negotiated agreement, he was sentenced to state prison for a total of eight to 20 years/stand committed, according to Foster and Doyle.

Debruhl also received suspended sentences that the state could seek to impose if he fails to remain on good behavior when he is released from prison, police said.

The Attorney General's Drug Task Force and Merrimack Police Department began the investigation in January 2014 and detectives ended up seizing more than 150 grams of heroin from Debruhl, according to the announcement.

Foster, in a press release, said:

"The problem of heroin abuse has been growing steadily and is one of the greatest challenges facing law enforcement here in New Hampshire and nationwide. While a solution to this problem is multi-faceted and must involve education and treatment, an important part of the solution will continue to be identifying, arresting, prosecuting and incarcerating heroin dealers.  Our Drug Task Force remains committed to this goal."
