RV, Barn, Motorcycle and Truck Destroyed in Friday Morning Fire

Wire Road was close for more than 5 hours while fire personnel extinguished and cleaned up fire.

An RV, a barn, a truck and a motorcycle in the barn were all destroyed in an early morning blaze on Wire Road on Friday.

Fire Capt. John Manuele, who is the town's fire marshal, said the fire started accidentally in the RV early in the morning. The call came into the Fire Department at 6:20 a.m. And by the time emergency officials had arrived on scene, the fire was fully-involved, Manuele said.

Engines 1 and 2 responded to the scene with Engine 1 arriving less than 5 minutes after the call came in. Manuele said police closed the road from Bedford Road to Catskill Drive and a second alarm was toned once it was determined all occupants of the home on the 106 Wire Road property were safe.

An aggressive interior attack of the fire was initiated, Manuele said, but was called off when it was determined the fuel load in the involved structures made conditions too dangerous for the firefighters inside. They continued to attack from the exterior and the fire was considered under control by 7:47 a.m.

The fire department remained on Wire Road, overhauling the scene until 10:51. All personnel left the scene by 11:36 a.m. During overhaul, a crane had to be brought into remove the roof and beams from the barn, as they were in danger of collapsing, according to a fire department press release.

In addition to Engines 1 and 2, Merrimack Fire Chief Michael Currier, Assistant Chiefs Richard Pierson and Brian Borneman and Manuele responded, as well as Merrimack EMS personnel. Mutual aid crews responded from Bedford, Amherst, Manchester, Nashua and Hollis directly to the scene, and Londonderry and Milford engines covered Merrimack Stations 1 and 2. PSNH, The Salvation Army Rehab Unit and The Merrimack Village District were also called to the scene to assist.

While the Merrimack Fire Department was tied up, Milford and Londonderry crews responded to a fire alarm and two medical calls.

While the fire has been classified accidental, a cause it not yet known.
