Everett Tolls in Merrimack Soon History?

The effort to remove Exit 12 ramp tolls clears one legislative hurdle.

A provision in a bill that the New Hampshire Senate passed March 27 would eliminate the ramp tolls for Exit 12 on the Everett Turnpike in Merrimack.

The bill says that the commissioner of the state Department of Transportation "shall eliminate the northbound and southbound ramp tolls for Exit 12 on the Everett Turnpike in the town of Merrimack."

Toll relief has long been a legislative priority for members of the greater Merrimack delegation.

The provision is part of Senate Bill 367, which proposes a 4-cent increase in the state's gas tax, from 18 cents to 22 cents per gallon, adjusted to changes in the consumer price index. The gas tax adjustment would be repealed upon completion of bonding for the widening of Interstate 93.
