Newt Doesn't Think Mitt Likes to Fire People

Says he thought the 'fire people' remark was taken out of context and used some bad language.

Newt Gingrich on Tuesday told reporters when asked that he doesn't think Mitt Romney actually likes to fire people, but the comment was taken out of context and said Romney just used some bad language.

Romney on Monday was quoted saying “I like being able to fire people who provide services to me. If someone doesn’t give me the good service I need, I’m going to go get somebody else to provide that service to me,” when talking to the Nashua Chamber of Commerce about consumers having the ability to seek a new health care provider.

Gingrich was swarmed by supporters and reporters outside of James Mastricola Upper Elementary School in Merrimack on Tuesday shortly before 3 p.m. The former speaker of the house said he believes his campaign has been very successful and he's happy that they've slowed Romney's momentum.

Gingrich also said, in response to a question about how "nasty" the campaiging will get in South Carolina, that he hopes it won't.

"I hope it's just a straight argument about philosophies the positions and records," Gingrich said.
