2 Arrested, 1 at Large in Sak's Outlet Theft

Police say one man managed to escape and they assume he has returned to Rhode Island.

Merrimack Police arrested two of three suspects in a theft reported at the Merrimack Premium Outlets on Memorial Day. A third suspect is still at large but Merrimack Police  Lt. Paul Trepaney said they believe that man has headed toward Rhode Island, where he is believed to live.

Police arrested Edwin Espinal, 20, of 136 Clarence St., Providence, R.I. And Jacob Dorbor, 21, of 10 Harriet St., Providence, R.I., both on charges of theft.

Trepaney says the men gave them a name for the third suspect, but police are unsure at this time if the information they gave is accurate. He also said they've reached out to other agencies, specifically in the Providence area, where the men are reportedly known entities.

Police on Monday were alerted at 2 p.m. to a theft that had occurred at Sak's 5th Avenue's Off Fifth outlet where the loss prevention officer says he witnessed three men stealing True Religion brand jeasn from a display rack.

As the officer approached the men, they made their way out of the store and scattered as he attempted to stop them. Police say the officer pursued one man but lost him in the area of Starbucks, down the hill from the mall.

During the pursuit, the loss prevention officer alerted mall security to the situation and Merrimack Police officers on a holiday weekend detail also heard the transmission and got involved. An additional patrol officer connected with the loss prevention officer at Starbucks.

While there the officer from Sak's observed one of the suspects drive down Premium Outlet Boulevard from the mall direction, pull a u-turn and head back up to the mall parking lot. The officer noted the car and Rhode Island registration and informed the Merrimack Police officers on scene of the information.

The vehicle was located a short time later and stopped on Industrial Drive with Espinal and Dorbor inside, and the pair was taken in to custody. Some of the alleged stolen items were recovered from the vehicle after a search warrant was obtained.

The third suspect remains at large, but Trepaney says a witness saw him get into another car with Rhode Island plates and they have every reason to believe he has left the Merrimack area. He said they alerted other agencies between here and Rhode Island to be on the lookout on Monday.

The third suspect was described at a 6-foot-tall black man with long dreadlocks, approximately 21 years old. He was last seen wearing a denim jacket, jeans and black sneakers with red laces.

“At this point we are following investigative leads and if we can identify him we'll issue a warrant for him,” Trepaney said. “We got two out of the three kids, but obviously we would like to get all three.”

According to a police press release the exact quantity of jeans believed stolen by the third perpetrator is unknown at this time, but the price tags varied between $100 and up to as much as $260 per pair.

Espinal and Dorbor were held overnight and were arraigned in the 9th Circuit Court - Goffstown District on Tuesday morning. They were each held on the $10,000 cash-only bail pending a probable cause hearing on June 4, in the 9th Circuit Court - Merrimack District.
