Merrimack Woman Arrested for Drunken Driving During Storm

Police say woman was also deemed a habitual offender. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A Merrimack woman was arrested Wednesday night after police went looking for a possibly intoxicated driver and came upon her car stuck in a snowbank.

Geraldine H. Deangelis, 65, of 2 Echo Shore Drive, Merrimack, was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, operating as a habitual offender, transportation of alcohol – open container.

Police were called on Tuesday at 3:43 p.m. to the Z1 Express gas station and convenience store for the report of a possibly impaired motorist. While enroute, eyewitness information revealed the involved motorist had left the area and was driving erratically, swerving all over the roadway and almost sideswiping passing vehicles.

With the assistance of this eyewitness, police found the vehicle, belonging to Deangelis, stuck in a snow bank along Summit Road. 

While conducting their roadside investigation, police learned Deangelis had a suspended driver’s license and had been deemed a habitual offender, a felony level offense. Police also detected signs of alcohol impairment and located numerous open alcohol containers within the vehicle. After further investigation, Deangelis was taken into custody.

She was released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail. Deangelis has been ordered to appear before the Merrimack Circuit Court on Thursday, Dec. 19, to answer to the charges.
