Police Charge Man Found Lying in Road with Drunken Driving

The following information was provided by Merrimack Police. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A Merrimack man police say the found lying in the northbound travel lane of Daniel Webster Highway early Wednesday morning has been charged with operating under the influence of liquor.

Charles Clark, 55, of 2 Galloway Road, Merrimack, was arrested after police found him lying in the roadway up the road from a separate location where his car was found smashed into a steel mailbox post. Police say they were called initially to a man walking in the roadway near Spartan Pizza on the northern end of Daniel Webster Highway around 2 a.m. Oct. 30.

When police found Clark, he was exhibiting signs of intoxication. After talking with Clark, police became concerned there may be other medical issues contributing to his behavior, and called an ambulance from Merrimack Fire Rescue to evaluate him.

Clark was transported to St. Joseph Hospital where he was evaluated and later released. Merrimack Police transported Clark back to their station where he was charged with the OUIL misdemeanor. He was released to a friend on $2,000 personal recognizance bail. He is due to appear in Merrimack district court on Nov. 5.
